Goodwill is an entrepreneurial, nonprofit organization with a social mission that employs 2,800 people. It has a Four Star Rating from Charity Navigator, awarded only to those charities that meet the highest standards of efficiency, governance public accountability and transparency.
Because of the great need in this community, our goal is to generate revenue and support training, employment and job placement for people with disabilities.
We do this by operating a donated goods and retail business with 36 stores and 53 other donation centers that employ 1,100. Goodwill also has several entrepreneurial divisions: Apparel & Flag manufacturing that manufactures one million items per year and employs 750 people.
Custodial Service, which cleans 142 buildings and employs 250 people.
Document Shredding and other business services which employ 250 people and a brand new healthcare laundry in the heart of Liberty City, that has the capacity of cleaning 40 million pounds of laundry per year.
Goodwill is dedicated to providing rehabilitation, on-the-job training, work experience, and placement services to help people with disabilities and special needs overcome barriers to employment and become employed in the community.
To be the leader in providing services to those with disabilities who want to work, but face barriers to employment. To train and place them in jobs they can perform successfully and retain.
Our community has one million jobs that "employ" people. Goodwill has jobs that "assist" people. These Goodwill jobs provide transitional employment for people with disabilities and special needs until ready for community employment.
Goodwill Industries of South Florida is affiliated and a member of Goodwill Industries International. We are a network of 172 community-based, autonomous member organizations that serve people with workplace disadvantages and disabilities by providing job training and employment services, as well as job placement opportunities and post-employment support. With locations in the United States, Canada, and 22 other countries, we help people overcome barriers to employment and become independent, tax-paying members of their communities. In 2010, Goodwill Industries International, comprised of the 208 independent local Goodwill's, served 544,765 individuals.
Non-profit organizations can achieve their goals in a variety of ways. Goodwill achieves its mission by employing a combination of human services and entrepreneurial activities.
The entrepreneurial activities serve as tools to help our program participants develop valuable work skills and experience and also generate funds to support the mission. This is a unique combination that provides opportunities to serve people, maintain stability and sustain growth.
Goodwill is an entrepreneurial organization to the core--a product of the free enterprise system, always serving more people and sending a powerful message: "Goodwill practices what it preaches" to those it serves.
The businesses we operate allow us to help people and generate revenue to support the mission.
These businesses make Goodwill almost 96% self-supporting with total revenues of $109.6 million.
